News Release

Hamilton, ON (August 12, 2019)
– John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport is excited to announce a list of new food and beverage offerings that will be arriving fall 2019 thanks to a recently formed partnership with Equal Parts Hospitality. The Airport will welcome Detour YHM – a “Made in Hamilton” approach featuring several local small businesses such as Detour Coffee Roasters, Collective Arts Brewing and Dear Grain Bakery. Other small business brands plan to be introduced as Detour evolves its products in response to changing consumer needs.

As the Airport has experienced unprecedented growth, the need to add additional food and beverage options has also grown. In the past two years, the Airport has seen passenger traffic increase by 118% and cargo traffic increase by 20%. With continued growth into 2019, the Airport is generating a positive economic impact on the region, including a 25% increase in jobs created since 2013. These additional travelers and employees will be able to take advantage of delicious local food and beverage offerings including a wide selection of grab and go items, light entrees, gourmet coffee options and craft beers.

Equal Parts approached Hamilton International with a clever and innovative proposal to provide a collection of “Made in Hamilton” restaurant brands and use refurbished shipping containers to create two new venues for grab and go food. One container will be located near Arrivals area for passengers and visitors along with convenient access for employees and business partners of the Airport, while the second container will be located inside the departure lounge for departing passengers. The containers have a modular format that can be relocated to new spaces as needed and creatively convey the ‘port city’ profile of the City of Hamilton.

“Hamilton International is very pleased to be growing its passenger activity which leads to the need to grow its services and amenities”, said Dina Carlucci, Director, Marketing and Communications, Hamilton International Airport. “In fact, passengers, Airport employees and staff at the various businesses that operate at the Airport have provided survey feedback for some time to add food and beverage offerings. The partnership with Equal Parts helps deliver on that much anticipated need while also incorporating Hamilton’s ‘sense of place’ into the Airport with both food and beverage brands from Hamilton and an innovative approach to adding retail space using shipping containers that remind us of Hamilton’s lively port.”

“Equal Parts is very excited to have designed a “Made in Hamilton” food and beverage experience from the ground up at Hamilton International Airport. We did this not only for travelers looking for delicious options, but to also expose them to some of the City’s leading food and beverage brands,” said Jason Cassis, Co-Founder & CEO, Equal Parts Hospitality. “As the Airport continues to grow, we look forward to creating new and exciting hospitality solutions that are locally inspired and most importantly delicious.”

“As a proud Hamilton brand, it’s a privilege to be able to represent the region for locals and visitors alike,” says Max Daviau, President, Detour YHM. “Collective Arts, Dear Grain and Detour Coffee have each grown up in this great city and to come together under one offering promises to be a fresh and exciting option for everyone passing through YHM.”

“We worked closely with Equal Parts and Detour YHM to design two contemporary food and beverage kiosks. The shipping container exterior is a nod to Hamilton’s steel city roots mixed with the juxtaposition of a modern and sleek finishes and furnishing that point to Hamilton’s commitment to emerging trends and the art world”, said Keri MacLellan, designer, Westgrove Design.
