John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport is pleased to release its 2013 Year in Review.

A number of achievements were realized in 2013 including the launch of the Airport’s new brand and funding announcement by the Ontario and federal governments for the Air Cargo Logistics Facility.

Hamilton International maintained its strong cargo partnerships with Cargojet, Purolator, UPS and DHL. In 2013 over 75,000 tonnes of goods including automobile and pharmaceutical products, general freight and express overnight air cargo were moved through the Airport.  Achievements in passenger services were realized with the introduction of new weekly service to Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba and Montego Bay, Jamaica by Transat and the welcome of Sunwing Airlines with flights to Varadero, Cuba.

Throughout 2013, the Airport did see a slight decline of approximately 2.5% in both passenger and cargo activity. Stricter management of aircraft capacity resulted in a slight year over year decline to passenger traffic, while continued economic uncertainty contributed to a decrease in cargo operations. Despite this, TradePort invested over $4 million in sustaining infrastructure at the Airport, and continued focus on efficient operations enhanced bottom-line financial results.

“Our team has worked extremely hard over the past year to enhance Airport operations and services,” said Frank Scremin, President and CEO, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport. “We are extremely pleased with the 2013 results, and look forward to continuing this momentum in 2014.”

Key highlights from 2013 include:

  • 341,740 passengers flying to and from Hamilton International
  • 388,286,000 kg in total landed cargo aircraft billable weight
  • Over 2,700 total jobs created through Airport activity at Hamilton International
  • 94% of passengers are likely to use Hamilton International again
  • $218 million in direct financial benefit to the City of Hamilton to date
  • Over $190,000 in donations and gifts in kind to charities and community programs
